Earth House (Yoon Dong-joo Memorial)

땅집 (윤동주 기념)

byCho Byoung-soo[C.B.S.](joh byung-sue)· 조병수

The defining work of Cho Byoung-soo's 'Earth House' series — a private retreat in rural Yangpyeong that recedes into the ground rather than rising above it. Two earthen courtyards anchor the plan; rammed-earth walls reuse the soil excavated from the site, and a salvaged pine from the site is embedded in the courtyard concrete. Built as a tribute to Korean poet Yoon Dong-joo (1917-1945). Often compared with Tadao Ando's underground concrete works.
